Cruise Tours

Take the Amara River Cruise on a traditional teak wood, 30 metre river boat along the Ayeyarwaddy River. The boat has seven cabins, each with its own bathroom, as well as a bar and canopied sun deck. It has battery generated electricity 24 hours a day – amenities include laundry facility, a fully equipped kitchen and refrigerators. Bed linen and towels are provided. Our friendly staff are available to ensure you can relax and enjoy the personal atmosphere on board. The boat has full fire safety, life jackets and a safety dinghy.

 

CRUISE 1: MANDALAY - BHAMO (6 NIGHTS / 7 DAYS)

Day 1: Mandalay Jetty – Shinemaga

  • Embark the Amara River Cruise at 8:00 am, sail north of Mandalay along Ayeyarwaddy River –
    • Mingun with the Mingun Bell, the world’s largest working bell
    • Shin Phyume Pagoda
    • The monumental unfinished brick Mingun Pagoda
  • Sail to the town of Sheinmaga
    (Lunch and dinner included)

Day 2: Shinemaga - Thabeikkyin

  • Leave Sheinmaga at 6:00 am and sail to Thabeikkyin –
    • Visit the pottery village of Nwe Nyein
    • Pass the Third Defile
    • Observe village life along the river including wood and fishing trades
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara

Day 3: Thabeikkyin - Tagaung

  • Set sail at 6:00 am, continuing upstream to Tagaung
    • Excursion into Tagaung, one of the oldest capitals of Burma
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara, just north of Tagaung.

Day 4: Tagaung - Katha

  • Set sail at 6:00 am, continuing upstream to Katha
    • Visit the Katha of George Orwell’s book “Burmese Days”
    • A beautiful town with a colourful market, friendly people and a unique atmosphere
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara, moored near the Katha harbor

Day 5: Katha - Shwegu

  • Depart from Katha at 6:00 am and sail to Shwegu
    • Opportunity to see the famous Ayeyarwaddy dolphin in this area
    • Observe the pagodas of Shwe Baw Kyunn from the Shwegu river bank (opposite)
    • View thousands of pagodas here, built around the 10th century
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara

Day 06: Shwegu - Bhamo

  • Set sail at 6:00 am, passing the Second Defile
    • The river banks become a steep cliff here and the river depth is extreme
    • Take in the beautiful scenery
  • In the afternoon, arrive in Bhamo
    • Bhamo is the most northern place the Amara can reach
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara

Day 07: Bhamo

  • Disembark after breakfast

CRUISE 2: BHAMO - MANDALAY (6 NIGHTS / 7 DAYS)

Day 1: Bhamo

  • Embark the Amara River Cruise in the afternoon
    (Dinner included)

Day 2: Bhamo – Shwegu

  • Set sail for Shwegu at 6:00 am, passing the beautiful Second Defile
    • The river banks become steep cliffs and the river depth is extreme
    • Take in the beautiful scenery
  • Arrive in Shwegu in the afternoon –
    • Visit the pagodas of Shwe Baw Kyunn on the opposite river bank
  • The Amara will here overnight

Day 3: Shwegu - Katha

  • Leave Shwegu at 6:00 am to sale to Katha
    • Take in the dense tropical forest scenery along the river, dotted with small villages
    • Opportunity to see the famous Ayeyarwaddy dolphin in this area
  • Reach Katha in the afternoon –
    • Visit the Katha of George Orwell’s book “Burmese Days”
    • A beautiful town with a colourful market, friendly people and a unique atmosphere
    • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara.

Day 4: Katha - Tagaung

  • Set sail at 6:00 am, continuing downstream to Tagaung
    • Sightseeing at Tagaung, one of the oldest capitals of Burma

Day 5: Tagaung – Kyaukmyaung

  • Set sail at 6:00 am continuing downstream to Thabeikkyin –
    • Past the Third Defile
    • Take in the dense teak forest
    • Visit the pottery village of Nwe Nyein
    • Sightseeing around Nwe Nyein
  • Dinner and overnight on board the Amara, in Kyaukmyaung

Day 6: Kyaukmyaung - Mingun

  • Set sail at 6:00 am, downstream to Mingun –

Day 3: Yandapo - Mt. Tangyi

  • Set sail early morning to Mt Tangyi
    • Small village of Yandapo, site of treaty signing between the British and Burmese in 1826

  • Mt. Tantgyi river bank –
    • Climbing Mt Tantgyi in the afternoon, by foot or car
    • Enjoy the evening view to Bagan from the pagoda

Day 4: Mt. Tangyi - Bagan Jetty

Day 1: Bagan Jetty - Mt. Tangyi

  • Embark the Amara River Cruise at 3:00 pm, sail to the shore of Mt. Tangyi
    • Climb Mt. Tangyi in the afternoon, by foot or car
