Tour Ref ONT 509 This Five day tour travels extensively through the northern mountains of Oman – with plenty of opportunities to explore; an overnight in the Wahiba Sands and a chance to see the giant Green Turtles nest make this a spectacular journey through the country.

Departing Muscat, a journey through one of Oman’s most spectacular canyons is a prelude to 2 nights and a full day in the 2,000 plateau of Jebel Akhdar. In the mountains a local guide will show you through the mountain field system . After lunch you can enjoy further exploration of the area.

Descending from the mountains a visit into Nizwa to see its fort and adjacent souq (market) is a chance to see both ancient and more modern Oman. Leaving Nizwa a brief stop is made in a small Bedouin market town before entering the golden dunes of Oman’s Wahiba Sands for lunch and an afternoon to walk through the dunes.

The East Coast of Oman is where giant Green Turtles lay their eggs. Travelling through the towns of Jaalan the coast is reached after lunch. Sea cliffs give views towards the protected area of Ras al Jinz where you will spend a night. This stay will give you an opportunity to see both the evening and dawn Green Turtle activity.

Your final day includes a change to see the Dhow yards where these wooden sea going boats are still made by hand. Further along the coast a walk can be taken in one of Oman’s most attractive wadis.

From Muscat a comfortable drive will take you to see the impressive Fort of Al Hazm with its remarkable collection of 16th century canon. Winding through the mountain foothills a stop is made at one of Oman’s regional forts before arriving at Ibri to overnight. After breakfast visits are made to the UNESCO site of BAT and Al Ain before ascending to the slopes of Jebel Shams for the night.  In the cool morning air take a walk overlooking Oman's 'Grand Canyon' then descend to visit Al Hamra. Continue to Nizwa to overnight.
